Bridges to Tybee Island

Bridges old and new through the salt marsh on the road from Savannah to Tybee Island (Georgia)

Little River Falls

Little River Falls at the beginning of Little River Canyon (northwestern border between Georgia and Alabama, USA). Captured on one of the coldest days I can remember in quite some time. Some of the icicles were about 10 feet long.

Clearwater Lake

Clearwater Lake spillway near Turin, Georgia USA. I drive across the dam almost every day. The lake was dug with mules pulling drag boxes. Heavy rains a few years ago caused the dam to burst. The lake drained in about a minute. It sat dry for several years until they found funds to make repairs.

The Rock, Georgia

Church and old buildings at The Rock, Georgia USA. The Rock was a stage coach stop on the old Federal Road.

Old truck

An old Dodge truck beside the world's largest water powered grist mill in Juliette, Georgia USA. Home of the Whistle Stop Cafe (made famous in the move Fried Green Tomatoes). The grist mill houses a motorcycle museum now, open only on weekends, so I didn't get to go inside on the Friday I was there.

Mama and Baby Burro

I took this photo a couple of years ago and it may be my favorite of all.

Thoughts and photographs from moments in time that touched me.

Moments in time

For the past few years I’ve been trying to apply a pretty simple philosophy to my life… one I can sort of carry around in my pocket. It goes like this…

Yesterday… you learn from the past but you don’t dwell there. The past is gone forever, so you apply the lessons you learned in the past right now… today… in this moment.

Tomorrow… when you awaken in the morning, it will not be tomorrow, it will still be right now because tomorrow never really comes. Of course you plan for tomorrow, lay the groundwork for your hopes, dreams, desires and needs. But again, tomorrow never comes.

What that means is all we have is right now, at this moment… no more and no less. It is all we will ever have and it is all we will ever need. So I try to appreciate each moment as it comes and wrest the best from it that I am able. Sometimes I do well and sometimes not, but I try to always remember this simple concept.

I’ve carried these thoughts with me for years and a few months ago, I added a bit to it.

If you want to build a past with no regrets, you build it by the choices you make and the things you do right now, in this moment.

If you want to build the future you dream of, you build it by the choices you make and the things you do right now, in this moment.

This moment… is all you will ever have and it is all you will ever need. Make the best of it!
